A Festive Hello to Photographic Prints on Wood

Remind us about you and what you create?

My name is Antoinette and I started Photographic Prints on Wood last year. I print photos on reclaimed wood and also provide a service for people to have their photo printed on a beautiful piece of reclaimed wood. All my work is handmade.

The Fairy Tale Fair Summer 2013!

Well the day has finally been and gone and what a magical day it was! Full of crafts, vintage tearoom, cakes, workshops and more! There were lots of you through the door once again and we heard some lovely comments about the fair and standard of stall holders.

We also held a charity raffle for the Brighton RSPCA, where our stall holders kindly donated handmade prizes to be won!  We raised £189 which has gone directly to the Patcham shelter to help the animals!

Some photos of the day follow and view them all on facebook here. Thanks to Kate Trevor for the photography. View her site here.

Say Hello To…Kate Trevor Photography

Today we tell you about Kate Trevor and her wonderful photography. She photographed our Christmas fair and enjoyed it so much she is coming back again for summer. Find out more…

Picture 41

Please tell us a bit about your photography and how you started…
My Dad has always been interested in experimenting with digital and film photography so I’ve always been surrounded by cameras. I studied it as a subject all the way from GCSE through to my degree that I have just completed at Sussex University and I love coming up with a project and working on something for a few weeks or months before putting together a final collection of images.
Picture 40
My main focus at the moment is documentary and landscape but I would also love to start working on some studio or fashion shoots in future.
What do you enjoy most about your photography?
Right now I’m really enjoying the freedom and variety of the work I get to do. Recently I’ve been working on education packs for teachers, look books for various products and a year long documentary project about Roller Derby. It’s all quite a mix!
Picture 42
I also love that I still get chance to go out and shoot whatever I like when I get a day off, I was recently at The British Wildlife Centre in Surrey photographing Scottish Wildcat Kittens, everyone loves Kittens!
Picture 39
You photographed our christmas fair- what did you think of the fair?
I loved photographing the Christmas Fair. I love how creative the people of Brighton are! I think the fair has been such a success and it’s a great opportunity for local people with a wide range of skills to demonstrate their work and talents.

Say Hello To…Jenny Rutterford Photography

Today we have another special guest interview, this time from Jenny Rutterford who will be photographing our fair and make sure we capture the day in style! Find out more about her below…

“I am so excited to be photographing the Patcham Fairy Tale Fair!   I met many of the artists at the Christmas Fair, and loved the quality and uniqueness of their work…”– Jenny

Picture 205

Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into Photography?

I am Jenny, a wedding and lifestyle photographer living in Shoreham-by-Sea. I have loved photography since childhood, and after getting my first film camera, became hooked on the excitement of creating images that were special to me, from which I could relive events as I had experienced them.  Years later, and with two children of my own, I decided to fulfill my dreams of capturing other people’s special memories.  I still feel the same rush of excitement I felt as a child each time I am behind the camera.

What do you enjoy most about photography?

I love the creativity!  For me, wedding photography is the most fun – one minute I am capturing the flower girls laughing together, the next, creating fine art images of the bride and groom in a beautiful setting.  I love the trust people place in me to be a part of their day – not only as a photographer, but often as agony aunt, kids’ entertainer and even emergency seamstress!  It’s a real people focused job, which I love.  There is a big responsibility to capture every moment and every detail perfectly, and the buzz of adrenalin does not stop from the bridal preparations, until the last dance.  It’s exhausting, but so very fun!

Picture 207

What inspires you?

It might sound bizarre for a wedding photographer, but I draw most of my inspiration from photographing landscapes.  There is something magical about getting outside in beautiful light, and capturing a breathtaking view simply for pleasure.  I head out with my tripod ‘just for fun’ at least once a week, finding inspiration in beautiful skies at sunrise, or crashing waves on the rocks (I feel very lucky to live near the sea).  Social media is great, and I enjoy following the blogs of world class wedding and fine art photographers.  But ultimately it is when I am outdoors in nature that I have my best ideas.

Picture 208

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future?

I have recently moved back to Sussex with my family, after five years living and photographing in Florida.  We had an amazing adventure, and I was privileged to build up an extremely loyal client base, enjoying word of mouth referral for weddings and family portraits.  It takes time to build this level of recognition, but I am committed to achieving this in the UK.

I am currently working towards professional membership of the Master Photographers’ Association, with the aim of achieving my wedding licentiate by the end of the year.  In January, I also started a 52-week photographic blog for 2013, which is uniquely focused on images in and around Shoreham-by-Sea.  This began as a fun project purely for my own inspiration, but is gaining readership, and generating other leads and enquiries.  I’m not sure where I’ll be in 3 years time, but it’s exciting!

Are you looking forward to attending the fairy tale fair?

I am so excited to be photographing the Patcham Fairy Tale Fair!   I met many of the artists at the Christmas Fair, and loved the quality and uniqueness of their work.  I am planning to photograph in the morning, then return in the afternoon with my 8 year old daughter, who would absolutely love making something at one of the crafting workshops.  It’s a great atmosphere, and a perfect mother-daughter day out!

How can we find out more about you?

Please head over to my website www.jennyrutterford.com to see my portfolio and local landscape blog.  And, just for being a reader of the Fairy Tale Fair blog, if you (or a friend) are getting married, please contact me and mention the Fairy Tale Fair for a generous 20% discount on all wedding packages booked in 2013.

If you’re on facebook, you can find me there too: www.facebook.com/jennyrutterfordphotography

And finally, I’d love to meet you in person at the Patcham Fairy Tale Fair on 9th March – please don’t be shy about introducing yourself!

The Photos are in!

We have had a first lot of photos back from Kate Trevor Photography.

A Guest Post from…Darvill & Jukes Photography

Today we have a guest post from Becky Jukes and Vicky Darvill- who will be the second of our photographers on the day. We look forward to welcoming them, and hear what they have to say below…

“We can’t wait to take photos at the Fairy tale event! And are both looking forward to capturing all of the beautiful colours of the crafts, all the stalls and the wonder of what promises to be a beautiful day!”- Becky and Vicky

Tell us a bit about you and what yourself and your photography….

Becky Jukes and Vicky Darvill met whilst working together in 2008 and soon discovered a shared love of photography. As a result of this friendship, Becky and Vicky came together to form Darvill and Jukes photography in 2012.

Becky lives in Newhaven with her husband Matt, and their two children. Becky’s passion for photography used to see her (as a child) spend the majority of her pocket money on developing endless amounts of films!
Becky’s children have learnt not worry about mummy laying on the floor to capture that must have photo and enjoy being models (most of the time). Working with Vicky as an administrator saw the start of Darvill and Jukes Photography and has lead to many a lunch time discussing their next photography adventure!

Vicky lives in Eastbourne with her husband Steve, five cats, three rats and a tank full of tropical fish!
When Vicky isn’t out and about taking photos, she can be found doing her day job as an administrator.
Vicky loves taking photos and is delighted to be able to share her love of photography with Becky as Darvill and Jukes photography continues to grow.

Have you always been a photographer?

Becky and Vicky have both always loved taking photos and have been fortunate enough in the last few years to be able to develop this individually and as Darvill and Jukes photography.

Becky and Vicky feel very lucky to have the opportunity to turn their life long hobby into their career!

What do you enjoy most about taking photos?

Vicky loves every aspect of photography, from setting up the perfect shot to tidying them up in the editing suite. The thing that Vicky loves the most however is sharing her photos with other people, seeing their reaction to a moment that they had not noticed at the time. A cheeky face of a flower girl, the look of surprise on the face of the couple arriving at their surprise anniversary party, or a beautiful display of cupcakes waiting to be devoured!

Like Vicky, Becky also enjoys every aspect of photography and sharing her work with others. For Becky, being able to document an event such as a wedding or a christening always fills her with excitement and pride knowing for years to come those photos will be cherished. Seeing her work on the walls of peoples homes, in the albums they share with family and even as their profile pictures on social media sites is all the motivation she needs!

Becky and Vicky feel privileged to be invited to share special and intimate moments and loves the chance to capture them forever.

Have you photographed other events before?

Between us we have photographed a number of different events including weddings (one of which was a surprise wedding!), birthday and anniversary parties (more surprises!), christenings, civil partnerships, corporate events and theatre headshots and publicity work!

Are you looking forward to taking photos on the day of the Fairy Tale Fair?

We can’t wait to take photos at the Fairy tale event! And are both looking forward to capturing all of the beautiful colours of the crafts, all the stalls and the wonder of what promises to be a beautiful day!

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

We are looking forward to growing our business while continually developing and updating our skills, knowledge and equipment. We would also like to eventually have a studio of our own, and ultimately we are looking forward to taking lots more photographs!!

Any other comments you wish to make:

Becky and Vicky would like to thank the organisers of the Fairy Tale Fair for the opportunity to take photographs at the event. We are truly excited to be part of the day and look forward to seeing everyone there!

Currently we are launching our website and business Facebook page . Our website and Facebook Page are still undergoing construction,so if you wish to speak with us please contact Becky Jukes on 07818832248 or you can find her personal page on Facebook .

A Guest Post From… Kate Trevor Photography

Today we have a guest interview from Kate Trevor who will be one of the photographers at our fair. We are looking forward to having Kate along to take some beautiful photos and make sure we capture the day in style!

“I’m really looking forward to photographing The Fairy Tale Fair, I went to the last event in August and wanted to buy everything I saw! The crafts were fantastic and the sellers were so talented!”- Kate Trevor

Tell us a bit about you and what yourself and your photography..

I’m Kate, I’m 21 and I’m currently in my final year at Sussex University studying Media Practice. The big photography project which I’m working on at the moment for my dissertation is focusing on Female Roller Derby teams in the UK which has been really exciting to shoot so far, The women are a real inspiration! In my spare time I like to take wildlife and landscape photographs as well as documenting my surroundings, I love capturing things I see which makes me laugh. I also like to sew and do a lot of crafting myself, from making dresses and skirts to bunting and cushions. My obsession with buying new fabric is getting a bit ridiculous now!

How would you describe your style of photography?

My favourite style of photography to shoot is documentary. I like shooting events and capturing moments as they unfold. I also like to experiment with 35mm film and Lomography cameras too when I have time. They always give such different results compared to what I get from digital prints and the bright colours always make the shots look so vibrant and exciting.

How long have you been a photographer?

I started taking photos using disposable cameras when I was about 7 and haven’t stopped since! I’ve studied it as a subject throughout High School, College and University and hope to continue taking photos for as long as possible whether it be for work or play.

What do you enjoy most about taking photos?

Sometimes when I do a shoot, I will take hundreds of shots but when I find those final few images which really stand out, it makes it all worth while! I always pay attention to detail and I love to capture things which some people may miss on a day-to-day basis but notice once it has been put into photographic form.

Have you photographed other events before?

I have photographed a few craft events before when I have had my own stall selling the things I’ve made so hopefully I will be able to capture all the fun from the next The Fairy Tale Fair! Other events I have shot include various Roller Derby Bouts, Protests in Brighton and various different outdoor events in Brighton over the years I have lived here.

Are you looking forward to taking photos on the day of The Fairy Tale Fair?

I’m really looking forward to photographing The Fairy Tale Fair, I went to the last event in August and wanted to buy everything I saw! The crafts were fantastic and the sellers were so talented!

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

My ambition for the future is to keep taking photos of anything and everything for as long as people want to keep looking at my work! If it is for part of my job then even better!

Any other comments you wish to make?

Can’t wait to meet all of the different sellers at the event and Thank you to The Fairy Tale Fair for having me along 🙂

McQueen Rainbow Dress Goes Gummi!

Teddy Bears Picnic anyone?

If you haven’t already seen these photos around Pinterest and other sites then this is impressive!

TWELV Magazine have re-created Alexander McQueen’s famous rainbow feather dress out of yummy gummi bears! 50,000 of them in fact! The dress was created by Hissa Igarashi and Sayuri Marakum who hand stuck each gummi bear onto the dress, taking 3 weeks!

We are super impressed with the effort and creativity of TWELV Magazine have gone to for their debut issue. The model you see in the dress is Jessica Pitti and the dress was made to fit her measurements (although maybe she needs to eat a few of them!) and ended up weighing over 220 lbs!

We can almost smell that childhood memory sweetie scent! And the dress certainly looks good enough to eat. Yum yum!

See TWELV Magazine‘s website.

Deco Pompoms

How pretty are these pom poms?…We love them! They are handmade with love by Deco Pompoms.

They make wonderful & whimsical decorations for events, weddings, parties, birthdays and more! Deco Pompoms describe them as: “Tissue Pom Poms! These poms are sure to be the statement piece of your event. They are soft and bold all at the same time. They are the perfect decor for weddings, baby showers, nurseries, and birthday parties! Add them to any celebration or room. Party Poms can be hung from ceilings, patios, even trees”.

We think they are so simple yet add such a great feel to an event and fit really well with a vintage theme.
