Say Hello To…Darcy & Flo

Today we welcome fairy tale fair newcomer Darcy & Flo, and their wonderful handmade dolls, made from the most gorgeous fabrics! Find out more about them…

Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

Darcy & Flo designs and makes quirky, bright, affectionate and collectable textile dolls with a pretty hand embroidered face that makes you smile as you walk by. For Spring 2014 we are launching a range of lovely quilts, cushions and other pretty things to compliment our jolly dolly range.

Screen shot 2014-03-04 at 22.24.24

How long have you been making your craft items?

I have always sewn and crafted since learning as a child with my mother, through to making clothes as a teenager and now in recent years I have been making quilts, cushions and textiles dolls

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

Dollies, dollies and more dollies! There must be lots of little (and not so little) girls beds with a Darcy & Flo doll on them.

Screen shot 2014-03-04 at 22.25.20

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

I enjoy creating something beautiful that will be loved and enjoyed by others. What is so great about having a stall at fairs and markets is that you get to see the response to your work. My dolls always make people smile, whether they stop and chat or just browse on their way by.

Will you have some special Spring time Easter creations for sale?

I have some pretty spring like fabrics that I am going to use to make some new dolls, especially for the Fairy tale fair. And I am launching my new range of quilts, cushions and other pretty things.

unnamed

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

I have been a regular at Makers Boutique in Brighton, Jessie Jumbles Marvellous Fairs and Handmade with Love @ Tunbridge Wells and this springtime at Horsham. It is great how much effort goes into event planning now to make it a really enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

unnamed-1

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

For Darcy & Flo to be a huge success on the scale of Cath Kidston. You’ve got to have a dream…!

Describe what Easter means to you in 5 words or less:

Today we welcome back Chloe of The Silver Hut, who has been with us since the start of our fairs! We can’t wait to welcome her and her wonderful silver creations back!…

Remind us about about you and what you create?

The Silver Hut is a small company based in Brighton that specializes in 925 gemstone jewellery.

I love to take my inspiration from the beaches and rock pools of Brighton as well as the natural world around me.

Screen shot 2013-11-06 at 13.58.06

Will you be selling some special festive creations?

This year I have a new wintery collection planned, with snowy whites, Swarovski crystals and silver snowflakes. This collection is due to be released in November at the Fairy Tale Fair!

Will you be taking part in any other fairs over the Christmas period?

I have a few other fairs planned, including the collaboration Christmas fair between The Fairy Tale Fair and Barties Boutique held in Worthing! You can check out all the details of my up coming events on my website!

You have previously taken part in The Fairy Tale Fair. Did you enjoy the day?

I have attended all of The Fairy Tale Fairs since it launched just over a year ago and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. This fair is my favourite to attend, it is always stuffed full of hand made treasures, activities, entertainment and of course the most spectacular cakes I’ve ever seen! The whole fair has a wonderful buzz about it which the stall holders and the customers seem to get energized from. If you weren’t in the Christmas spirit before you arrived then you will be by the time you leave this fair!

Screen shot 2013-11-06 at 13.58.27

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

I recently released my ‘Wedding and Occasion collection’. I now have some beautiful designs for special days, all available to order in your custom colours and sizes. I’m hoping to attend lot’s of wedding fairs next year and expand this business more, so watch this space!

Say a Festive Hello To…Rosehip

Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about how Rosehip began…

Hello! We are two vintage-loving cooks and crafters, Emily Wade and Wendy Bell, and we both live in Lewes. We met through our young children being at the same nursery. One day while chatting in a cafe over tea and chocolate brownies it became clear that we both share a passion for food, flowers and styling. One thing (well, brownie) led to another (brownie) and from there we decided to create a bespoke vintage catering and event styling company together.

Picture 495

What do you enjoy most about Rosehip?

We relish every opportunity to be creative and dynamic. Our different styles of working are complementary and bring further dynamism to an already highly creative process. All of what we do is creative and that is what we love!

Picture 496

What is your most popular cake or yummy treat?
One of our most popular cakes is our 6-layered ombre cake with homemade passion fruit jam and white chocolate ganache frosting and for treats look no further than our melt in the mouth macarons!
1235408_386304704828454_941147104_n
Can we find you at any other events over the festive season?

Yes! We will be at the Christmas Vintage Fair at Middle Farm – 23rd & 24th November, and the Artists and Makers fair in Lewes on 30th November, where we will be selling our homemade iced Christmas biscuits, homemade crafts and vintage wares.

1379279_394821903976734_1196910136_n

Before all that we’ll be running a pop up cafe as part of ‘Carnivale Creative’ at the Lewes Town Hall on Thursday 5th December. Doors open at 5pm, as this is the Lewes’ Late Night shopping evening. Some vintage circus-themed delights we are planning include rainbow confetti cake and candyfloss topped cupcakes, as well as—of course!—moustache cookies on sticks. As well as the cafe there’ll be live music, stalls and various other acts. Another fun date for the diary!

551309_409208625871395_566995199_n

We really look forward to seeing you at the Fairy Tale Fair; come over and try out our Pomegranate jewel cake (gluten free) or a slice of Italian chocolate and nut Christmas cake with whipped cream, or maybe a slice of Lime and pistachio cake (also gluten free). Or if you feel like something savoury, how about our hand-raised turkey, bacon and apricot pie or maybe our pea, tarragon and cream cheese pithivier. There will be plenty more on offer too.

Describe what Christmas is to you in 5 words or less:

Celebrate all that you treasure!
