Say Hello to… Shiny Pigeon

Today we are super exited to welcome back the lovely Rebecca of Shiny Pigeon, she was very popular at our last fair and we’ll sure she will be again!…

Tell us/ remind us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

Hello! I’m Rebecca and I create whimsical woodland creatures and gifts from fabric, felt and yarn. I work out of the back bedroom of our Nest, normally with our woof, Chekhov laid around my feet and my husband on a very important conference call on the desk next to mine. My creations are inspired by the books I read as a child and I hope to invoke the nostalgia of Enid Blyton, Kenneth Grahame and Richard Adams for the young…or at least the young at heart.

1549313_725027534195747_1675936161_n

How long have you been making your craft items?

I can’t remember a time I wasn’t making something, I am quite lucky to have been encouraged to ‘be quiet and find something to do’ from an early age. I taught myself to crochet around 3 years ago and I have been sewing since I was allowed to use a needle. I opened the digital doors of The Pigeon’s Nest in 2012 as an outlet for my creativity, and I haven’t looked back.

1521904_687930011238833_1070760834_n

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

This year, my rabbits have really done well…. I think I have a certain Christmas ad from John Lewis to thank for that. They make fabulous gifts for children and newborns too…I love getting bunny snuggle photos!

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

I love to respond to what customers want. I’ve added so many new colour ways recently after getting commissions and then falling in love with the result! The biggest head over heels moment I have had recently has to be for my bunny in a lemon yellow, requested by a customer. I want to make a whole warren full of those beauties!

Will you have some special Spring time Easter creations for sale?

For spring and summer my Love Birds shed their Christmassy colours for pastels and there are chicks galore! Of course, my rabbits will be making an appearance….what is Easter without the Easter bunny?

1013757_699446390087195_1865966161_n

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

I am very excited to be part of Cowpie this year. Having moved from Dorking, it will now be held at Blue Anchor Farm in Lingfield on the 11th of May. Looks like it should be a brilliant day for all the family!

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

I have so many plans for The Pigeon’s Nest! I have recently put some of my makes into a lovely brick and mortar shop in Horsham, and this year I hope to find another lovely little boutique, perhaps in Brighton who would stock me too.

Describe what Easter means to you in 5 words or less:

Spring has finally sprung. HOORAY!

You have previously taken part in The Fairy Tale Fair. Did you enjoy the day?

I honestly had SO much fun at the last Fairy Tale Fair. I was quite poorly and was slurping Lemsips under my table, but that didn’t put a dampener on my day at all! Everyone was so friendly (and SUPER talented!) and it really felt like a buzzing community of fabulous makers. It was a great way to spend my Saturday!

Any other comments you wish to make:

The Pigeon’s Nest has made the leap on to Etsy, and I am very pleased we have. Not all my wonderful things are listed yet, but I am just very pleased to be part of such a wonderful online community…. You can find me at https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ThePigeonsNestUK .

But what is a craft fair without bunting….?

We love our bunting here at The Fairy Tale Fair! We can’t wait to show off the beautiful bunting by bunting boutique, which will decorate our fair once again!

Bunting Boutique's bunting at our spring fair

Bunting Boutique’s bunting at our spring fair

Here are a few words from Sue, owner of Bunting Boutique:

“Down on the Sunny South Coast, tucked away on a side street a mere stones-throw from the beach resides Bunting Boutique, makers of the most exquisite handmade one-off pieces of bunting.

Picture 193

In our Aladdins cave of a studio, surrounded by a myriad of fabrics, tools, nic-nacs and trinkets, we lovingly construct strand upon strand of bunting, the colour and fabric of every single piece carefully considered, every stitch laboured over.

Picture 192

Our vintage ranges are little works of art in their own right, and with materials sourced from all four corners of the globe (well, Sussex anyway!) you can guarantee that every bundle is totally unique.

Picture 195

By incorporating things like a crocheted doily, a gorgeous trim detail, or an area of hand embroidery, every piece has it’s own story, it’s own history, and we hope, a wonderful future!

If you’re looking for something specific, something more personal perhaps, then please click here to read more about the many bespoke services we can provide.

Picture 194

We can hand embroider letters onto linen to create words or phrases of your choice, or we can design and make Bunting to your specification.

Picture 196

You can choose the patterns, fabric and colour scheme of your choice to guarantee it fits perfectly wherever it ends up hanging.

Picture 198

If you have a special piece of vintage linen which is sentimental to you and would like to see it transformed into a lovely garland, we will gladly help you to realise this. So head over to our Bespoke page for more details.

It’s no secret we really love what we do, and we love to create items that you’ll find inspiring and enhance and transform your home, bedroom, wedding venue, caravan or garden into a magical space.”

Say Hello To…Jelly Roos

Remind us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

I’m a mum of three, with a love of miniature. I design and create special little fabric houses with beautiful details just perfect for fairies! I get excited about fabrics and vintage buttons and love using them to produce unusual Jelly Roos products.

How long have you been making your craft items?

I’ve been running Jelly Roos for about 1yr and a half, but have been working on my unique line of ‘shelf houses’ over about 7 months.

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

My unique design of beach hut, created from beautiful fabrics and with hand stitched details which opens to reveal a storage space.

unnamed-16

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

Seeing and hearing the public’s response to them.

Will you have some special Spring time Easter creations for sale?

My ‘shelf houses’ are great for giving Easter gifts in!

unnamed-17

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

I am focusing on online sales and wholesale but am looking at booking more markets for later on in the year.

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

Say Hello to…Trish Palmer

Tell us/ remind us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

I  taught Textiles at the local secondary school and introduced knitting, patchwork, embroidery, tie/dye and many of the older crafts back into the lessons. After 32 years I took early retirement and now have the time to experiment using the older crafts with a modern touch – its fun!

unnamed-18 unnamed-17

How long have you been making your craft items?

I have always made craft items. I enjoy embroidery and love to embellish with beads and ribbons. My daughter wore homemade clothes as well as hand knitted woollies and of course soft toys.

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

My knitted Cacti continue to be very popular because they look so vicious but are soft, safe and never die. Super Star peg dolls sell well. They are all modeled on Lady Gaga so are very different, full of character and style.

unnamed-18

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

Its keeps me out of trouble! The difference between each Cacti or Peg Doll as it is finished still amazes me and I am always pleased with each individual look. Looking at different craft items and then trying my own version still gives me a kick!

unnamed-20

Will you have some special spring time Easter creations for sale?

Easter Cacti, Peg doll kits for those who cannot or should not have chocolate and some hand painted Easter cards for those who prefer them without bunnies and lambs.

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

No. I only trade at the Fairy Tale Fairs

unnamed-19

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

I think I have been lucky and achieved my ambitions to teach but I would not say No to losing some weight and being fitter.

Describe what Easter means to you in 5 words or less:

Fresh start, best foot forward.

You have previously taken part in The Fairy Tale Fair. Did you enjoy the day?

The Fairy Tale Fairs are so friendly, so well organized it’s always a delight to take part.

unnamed-21

Any other comments you wish to make:

Looking forward to the day and meeting more craft minded people.

Are you looking forward to selling at Bartie’s and do you have some lovely festive gifts ready for everyone to buy?
I am very much looking forward to selling at Bartie’s. My designs would definitely make original Christmas gifts. I will also have some cheaper sale items which would make great stocking fillers.

Say a Festive Hello To…Cheap Frills

Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

I am a total magpie, so anything sparkly or pretty gets my attention. I used to love rooting through my Grandma’s jewellery box for charms and trinkets and the cameos always really appealed to me. So much of what I do now is cameo related. I have always had a fascination with faces and the stories they tell.

1461744_607378779322246_7610601_n

How would you describe your style?

Eclectic and nostalgic. My jewels seem to range from classic vintage inspired cameos to ultra modern neon skulls. I just create a mishmash of everything I love.

How long have you been making your craft items?

I started in October 2011, with one mission: To make a Queen Elizabeth I cameo ring. I always wanted one! I got a little side tracked, made other things and built up a bit of a collection. When I did eventually make the ring, she was a sell out.

1467196_607146529345471_198614433_n

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

The animals always seem to go down really well. My other top selling items are probably The Henry VIII charm bracelet, Lord Pug Necklace and the feather bracelets.

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

It’s exciting when I have a brain wave and I’m inspired to make something new. I love rooting around for findings. Meeting new people is fantastic too! I made a very close friend through the craft fairs.

1395280_607140916012699_180807823_n

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

I’ll be at Johnny Loves June, in Shoreham on the 8th Of December and
Jessie Jumbles Marvellous Marketon the 15th December

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

We’ll have to wait and see.

We’ve always had a fairy filled ball with the Fairy Tale Fair.  It’s such a friendly event, with a fantastic range of high quality crafted items providing something for everyone. What are your plans/ ambitions for the future?

Or have you already achieved them?  To expand the space time continuum to allow for more stitching and crafting time- so much to stitch… so little time…    Seriously, since my stitching knowledge has always been far superior to my scientific I will just continue to enjoy every opportunity to both expand my skill and practice it.

Say hello to…… The Pigeon’s Nest

We are looking forward to welcoming The Pigeon’s Nest to The Fairy Tale Fair! We know she has followed and been a fan of the fair for a long time now, so its great to have her as one of our lovely stall holders! Find out all about her creations…

Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

I’m Rebecca and I crochet and sew my little fingers off making lots of lovely creatures  and gifts for others to love and treasure. I live in my little nest with my husband and dog, Chekhov. My shop name has come out of a college nickname (due to wearing a lot of grey and picking at anything that resembles food) and it made sense to focus my hooks and needles on creating birds and beasts!

handmade robin christmas gift

How long have you been making your craft items?

I am currently in my 2nd year of crocheting. I taught myself through Youtube! I have been sewing on and off since I hit my teens. My dad is great with a needle and thread.

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it? And do you have some special festive items planned to sell?

My Robin Red-Breasts always do very well at Christmas, and their cousins the Love Birds do really well all year round. I have quite a few festive bits and bobs this year, including crochet Christmas baubles and Christmas Puds!

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

I love the fact it is portable. I do it on my lunch hour at ‘The Real Job’, I’ve taken it on flights, on long car journeys, to friend’s houses….  I have even taken it to the pub when I was overrun with Christmas orders last year!

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

I do! I have 8 or 9 fairs booked up for the Christmas season in West Sussex and Brighton & Hove. I will be popping a post up on my blog soon detailing them all!

Crochet Christmas Puddings (2)

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

My dream would be to run The Pigeon’s Nest as a full time job. Every purchase is a small step towards that goal and I truly appreciate every person who has bought from me since I opened.

Sum up what Christmas is to you in 5 words or less!:

The perfect excuse for more puddings!

Any other comments you wish to make:

So excited to be taking part in FairyTale Fair this November.  I will have to keep my hands in my pockets as not to spend all my cash on others fabulous crafts!
