Say Hello To…The Silver Hut

Tell us/ remind us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

Hello I’m Chloe, owner and designer at The Silver Hut, I make 925 Silver and Gemstone Jewelry which is inspired by my natural surroundings, especially our famous seafront and beaches here in Brighton.
I also have a ‘custom’ wedding and occasion jewelry service which is full of very sparkly Swarovski Crystals and pearls.

How long have you been making your craft items?

I have been making jewelry ever since I can remember but managed to turn my passion in to a small business back in 2010 by attending small craft and school fairs, I then took the plunge into online selling with my shop on and also Facebook.

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

My best sellers are my lovely cluster earrings which I make in all colours and sizes, I can never seem to make enough of them and also any item from my Sea Life Collection; I find that my customers love to be able to take a bit of Brighton with them where ever they go!

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

I love it when you sell a piece that you have put a lot of hard work in to and have really enjoyed making to a customer and they love it just as much as you do, it is one of the most satisfying feelings ever.

Will you have some special Spring time Easter creations for sale?

This Easter my £1 lucky dips will be back with a re-stock for my younger customers with some little wearable Easter treats in, as well as some new pieces in my Fairy Tale Collection with some summery colours, silver flowers and insects.

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

Yes I do! You can find me at all sorts of fairs and craft markets in Brighton. I put all my up coming events up on my Facebook page and my website.

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

I would like to find some fairs or markets slightly further afield of Brighton and also to have a big re-stock for my stall with some new collections and some larger more intricate pieces.
I would also like to build more awareness in my wedding collection and see if I can get to more wedding fairs, as well as I would love to get some wedding boutiques to stock my designs.

You have previously taken part in The Fairy Tale Fair. Did you enjoy the day?

I always enjoy my day with The Fairy Tale Fair! It is the most vibrant, exciting fair that I attend. It is always stuffed full of very talented designers and makers, the workshops are great and both kids and adults can enjoy them, the tea room has the most amazing cakes and savoury snacks I have ever seen and there is always a good buzz about the room!

Say a Festive Hello To…Rosehip

Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about how Rosehip began…

Hello! We are two vintage-loving cooks and crafters, Emily Wade and Wendy Bell, and we both live in Lewes. We met through our young children being at the same nursery. One day while chatting in a cafe over tea and chocolate brownies it became clear that we both share a passion for food, flowers and styling. One thing (well, brownie) led to another (brownie) and from there we decided to create a bespoke vintage catering and event styling company together.

Picture 495

What do you enjoy most about Rosehip?

We relish every opportunity to be creative and dynamic. Our different styles of working are complementary and bring further dynamism to an already highly creative process. All of what we do is creative and that is what we love!

Picture 496

What is your most popular cake or yummy treat?
One of our most popular cakes is our 6-layered ombre cake with homemade passion fruit jam and white chocolate ganache frosting and for treats look no further than our melt in the mouth macarons!
Can we find you at any other events over the festive season?

Yes! We will be at the Christmas Vintage Fair at Middle Farm – 23rd & 24th November, and the Artists and Makers fair in Lewes on 30th November, where we will be selling our homemade iced Christmas biscuits, homemade crafts and vintage wares.

Before all that we’ll be running a pop up cafe as part of ‘Carnivale Creative’ at the Lewes Town Hall on Thursday 5th December. Doors open at 5pm, as this is the Lewes’ Late Night shopping evening. Some vintage circus-themed delights we are planning include rainbow confetti cake and candyfloss topped cupcakes, as well as—of course!—moustache cookies on sticks. As well as the cafe there’ll be live music, stalls and various other acts. Another fun date for the diary!

We really look forward to seeing you at the Fairy Tale Fair; come over and try out our Pomegranate jewel cake (gluten free) or a slice of Italian chocolate and nut Christmas cake with whipped cream, or maybe a slice of Lime and pistachio cake (also gluten free). Or if you feel like something savoury, how about our hand-raised turkey, bacon and apricot pie or maybe our pea, tarragon and cream cheese pithivier. There will be plenty more on offer too.

Describe what Christmas is to you in 5 words or less:

Celebrate all that you treasure!

This is your first fairy tale fair, are you looking forward to it?

We are delighted to be part of the Fairy Tale Fair, do pop along and see us. We promise to delight your taste buds and provide you an enchanting festive experience.

Say Hello To…The Silver Hut

Today we welcome back Chloe, of The Silver Hut, who we have been lucky enough to have at all our fairs! She will be back again this Saturday to help us celebrate our 1st Birthday! Find out more about her lovely jewellery…

“It is very satisfying when a design makes it from paper into an actual finished piece; even better when you sell it to a customer who loves it just as much as you do!” – Chloe, The Silver Hut

Picture 200

Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

Hello, I’m Chloe, owner and designer of The Silver Hut. I make 925 and Karen Hill Silver, gemstone jewellery which I sell at lot’s of local fairs and markets as well as in my online shop on

Picture 203

How would you describe your style?

I like to use inspiration from the natural world around me. I have a large collection which is focused on the beach and sea life, living in Brighton there is always something about which helps me spur off a new design!

I also have a collection which focuses on plants and flowers and combines mythical and magical creatures like fairies and unicorns.

I guess you could call my style very ‘Boho’ and ‘Classy Beach Babe!’

Picture 201

How long have you been making your craft items?

The Silver Hut has been up and running for nearly 3 years now, but I have always made my own jewellery. I made my very first pair of earrings when I was just 7 years old!

Picture 205

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

At the moment I have been selling lots of my gemstone cluster earrings, they make great presents and have so many different colours in them that they suit most outfits. They are also both casual and smart enough to wear whenever you like!

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

The making of course!
I have really enjoyed experimenting with different techniques and materials over the years. I love exploring all the different colours and textures of the gemstones and I especially love all the little packets of Swarovski crystals! It is very satisfying when a design makes it from paper into an actual finished piece; even better when you sell it to a customer who loves it just as much as you do!

Picture 202

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

You can find The Silver Hut stall at lot’s of Sussex fairs and markets, keep an eye on my website for up coming listings.

The Silver Hut also has a large wedding collection which is about to be launched as part of a collaboration with some other talented Brighton designers! Further details will also be posted on my website shortly!

Picture 204

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

My future ambitions are to finalise my new wedding collection and to open the new website.
Together with some other designers, we hope to create a new ‘handmade wedding shop’ where you can find beautiful, bespoke wedding accessories, with everything from Jewellery, Tiara’s and haircombs to wedding photographers, cakes and wedding favours, all with that personally designed touch.

You have previously taken part in The Fairy Tale Fair. Did you enjoy the day?

I have attended every Fairy Tale Fair since it started! It is my favourite fair to attend and wouldn’t miss it for the world! I love the happy vibe that you get from both the sellers and customers, there is always a great combination of crafts and with each fair it gets better every time!

Bring out the Bunting!

We love our bunting here at The Fairy Tale Fair! We can’t wait to show off the beautiful bunting by bunting boutique, which will decorate our fair once again!

Bunting Boutique's bunting at our spring fair

Bunting Boutique’s bunting at our spring fair

Here are a few words from Sue, owner of Bunting Boutique:

“Down on the Sunny South Coast, tucked away on a side street a mere stones-throw from the beach resides Bunting Boutique, makers of the most exquisite handmade one-off pieces of bunting.

Picture 193

In our Aladdins cave of a studio, surrounded by a myriad of fabrics, tools, nic-nacs and trinkets, we lovingly construct strand upon strand of bunting, the colour and fabric of every single piece carefully considered, every stitch laboured over.

Picture 192

Our vintage ranges are little works of art in their own right, and with materials sourced from all four corners of the globe (well, Sussex anyway!) you can guarantee that every bundle is totally unique.

Picture 195

By incorporating things like a crocheted doily, a gorgeous trim detail, or an area of hand embroidery, every piece has it’s own story, it’s own history, and we hope, a wonderful future!

If you’re looking for something specific, something more personal perhaps, then please click here to read more about the many bespoke services we can provide.

Picture 194

We can hand embroider letters onto linen to create words or phrases of your choice, or we can design and make Bunting to your specification.

Picture 196

You can choose the patterns, fabric and colour scheme of your choice to guarantee it fits perfectly wherever it ends up hanging.

Picture 198

If you have a special piece of vintage linen which is sentimental to you and would like to see it transformed into a lovely garland, we will gladly help you to realise this. So head over to our Bespoke page for more details.

Say Hello To…Bets and Bobs

Today we meet a Fairy Tale Fair newcomer- Bets and Bobs. We are excited to welcome her and her unique, quirky creations. Find out what shes all about…

“I love nothing more than to see people smiling when they read my cards. Some of them are quite cheeky so there’s often an element of surprise!” – Emma, Bets and Bobs

Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

I work in PR 4 days a week after taking the decision in January to go part time and focus on my creative ventures one day a week. I started making cards and gifts for friends and family and they always commented on how nice they were but I just thought they were being kind. It was amazing when I did my first market a couple of years ago and strangers bought my creations! It has given me a lot of confidence and I love meeting new people at fairs, markets and crafty get-togethers. I mostly produce greeting cards with stamps and stenciled, using typography to make people smile. I also make pictures using sheet music and decoupage that I love as they are all one of a kind. I also enjoy event styling so I have spent the last few summers making weddings look pretty too.

Picture 21

How would you describe your style?

Fun and quirky. I love nothing more than to see people smiling when they read my cards. Some of them are quite cheeky so there’s often an element of surprise!

Picture 16

How long have you been making your craft items?

I did my first market a year and a half ago and since then I have been doing as many as I can – I’m really excited to be joining the Fairy Tale fair in August, as it’s a great opportunity to meet other clever crafty Sussex folk!

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

It depends where I am selling. If I’m at fairs and people can see my work then the pictures always go down well and it’s always nice to be able to have a bespoke gift made. My cards always get a laugh though too!

Picture 19

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

I love talking to people that come and see my stall as it’s the best way to find out what makes your potential customers tick. It’s a massive help for the whole creative process too. I keep a little notebook with me to take note of any weird and wonderful things that pop into my head so I love it when I create a card based on my ramdom thoughts and observations and them somebody else appreciates the humour as much as I do!

Picture 20

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

I have been building up my fair and market presence recently, so it’s really interesting to see the different types of people that go to all the different events in Sussex. I’m working on having some of my pictures and cards at my first open house this Christmas – which is very exciting!

Picture 17

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

Once I have my website up to scratch I’m looking forward to putting some of my PR knowledge into practice and spreading the word about Bets & Bobs. My ultimate dream would be to have my own shop that sells my creations and other designer/makers in Brighton/ Sussex – it’s nice to be ambitious!

Belle’s Vintage Wedding Fair

Kelly started Belle’s Events in 2012 and her first ever fair was Belle’s Vintage Wedding Fair at Hove Town Hall where she was working in the events office. After a rather disastrous visit to a local wedding fair with her beautiful car Belle Kelly was on a a mission! Her vision was to create a fair for couples and suppliers to come together under one big vintage inspired roof to chat, enjoy the atmosphere and discover that there are people out there that will love what you do or simply ‘get you’, that’s what it’s about after all, finding the right person to help create your vision. The fair attracted couples from near and far who were desperate to find something different, something unique, something really special.
Picture 343
A year on and with 7 fairs under her belt we are very excited about Belle’s Vintage Wedding Fair number 4, she’s gone all out this time and has been blown away by the sheer amount of contacts she has had since Christmas. When I spoke to Kelly she told me that she is most thrilled that she has regulars now, it’s something she never thought would happen and she really does appreciate them. The entertainment that Kelly has arranged for Belle’s Vintage Wedding Fair is a reason on it’s own to visit on the day. Johnny Zero, Kelly’s right hand man on the day will not only be crooning his way around the event but has created a wonderful line up of acts including Cherry MorelloMaria Soriano,  Mr Tunes Vintage DJwho recently wowed Kelly at the Doily Days Loves Weddings Magagazine launch party. Also the wonderful Noelle Vaughn, not to mention the brilliant Anna Sin and the Jukebox Bandits. These acts will be playing throughout the day in different locations and will be available to talk to about booking them for your wedding.

Being a crafty kind a girl I am most excited about the new addition to Belle’s Vintage Wedding Fair, The MAKE Fabulous Wedding area run by Donna Hogarth of Fabulous Flora. This area will give crafty, DIY brides the chance to try their hand at crafts that will help them to make special handmade pieces for their weddings. Recently Donna ran this area at Belle’s Bridal Boot Fair and had brides making their own jam jar flower displays, it’s such a great idea, take your Mum and Bridesmaids along to have a go too, you never know, this could save you a few pennies and turn out to be a whole lot of fun, Donna also run hen packages.
The Tinderbox

The Tinderbox

Outside Belle’s Vintage Wedding Fair you will obviously be able to meet Belle herself in all her glory, VW Splitty Wedding Hire Crepe Lui and the cutest little caravan in the world, The Tinderbox. Inside there will be over 50 vintage inspired wedding suppliers to speak to during the day, each of them really talented and inspiring. Kelly’s fairs are not like your average wedding fairs, if you haven’t been to one yet this is the one to go to, even if you’re not getting married it really is a fun day out. Egg & Spoon will be there with a pop-up tea room too so you can stay for lunch. I would advise that you take some cash on the day as stall holders will be able to take deposits and there will be a chance to have your hair and make-up done by Coco Belle Styling or Pretty Pout.

If you are one of the first hundred through the door you get a complimentary glass of processco served by Glass Acts who hire out crystal glasses for weddings.

Say Hello To…Jenny Rutterford Photography

Today we have another special guest interview, this time from Jenny Rutterford who will be photographing our fair and make sure we capture the day in style! Find out more about her below…

“I am so excited to be photographing the Patcham Fairy Tale Fair!   I met many of the artists at the Christmas Fair, and loved the quality and uniqueness of their work…”– Jenny

Picture 205

Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into Photography?

I am Jenny, a wedding and lifestyle photographer living in Shoreham-by-Sea. I have loved photography since childhood, and after getting my first film camera, became hooked on the excitement of creating images that were special to me, from which I could relive events as I had experienced them.  Years later, and with two children of my own, I decided to fulfill my dreams of capturing other people’s special memories.  I still feel the same rush of excitement I felt as a child each time I am behind the camera.

wedding photography sussex

What do you enjoy most about photography?

I love the creativity!  For me, wedding photography is the most fun – one minute I am capturing the flower girls laughing together, the next, creating fine art images of the bride and groom in a beautiful setting.  I love the trust people place in me to be a part of their day – not only as a photographer, but often as agony aunt, kids’ entertainer and even emergency seamstress!  It’s a real people focused job, which I love.  There is a big responsibility to capture every moment and every detail perfectly, and the buzz of adrenalin does not stop from the bridal preparations, until the last dance.  It’s exhausting, but so very fun!

Picture 207

What inspires you?

It might sound bizarre for a wedding photographer, but I draw most of my inspiration from photographing landscapes.  There is something magical about getting outside in beautiful light, and capturing a breathtaking view simply for pleasure.  I head out with my tripod ‘just for fun’ at least once a week, finding inspiration in beautiful skies at sunrise, or crashing waves on the rocks (I feel very lucky to live near the sea).  Social media is great, and I enjoy following the blogs of world class wedding and fine art photographers.  But ultimately it is when I am outdoors in nature that I have my best ideas.

Picture 208

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future?

I have recently moved back to Sussex with my family, after five years living and photographing in Florida.  We had an amazing adventure, and I was privileged to build up an extremely loyal client base, enjoying word of mouth referral for weddings and family portraits.  It takes time to build this level of recognition, but I am committed to achieving this in the UK.

I am currently working towards professional membership of the Master Photographers’ Association, with the aim of achieving my wedding licentiate by the end of the year.  In January, I also started a 52-week photographic blog for 2013, which is uniquely focused on images in and around Shoreham-by-Sea.  This began as a fun project purely for my own inspiration, but is gaining readership, and generating other leads and enquiries.  I’m not sure where I’ll be in 3 years time, but it’s exciting!

snow photography

Are you looking forward to attending the fairy tale fair?

I am so excited to be photographing the Patcham Fairy Tale Fair!   I met many of the artists at the Christmas Fair, and loved the quality and uniqueness of their work.  I am planning to photograph in the morning, then return in the afternoon with my 8 year old daughter, who would absolutely love making something at one of the crafting workshops.  It’s a great atmosphere, and a perfect mother-daughter day out!

How can we find out more about you?

Please head over to my website to see my portfolio and local landscape blog.  And, just for being a reader of the Fairy Tale Fair blog, if you (or a friend) are getting married, please contact me and mention the Fairy Tale Fair for a generous 20% discount on all wedding packages booked in 2013.

If you’re on facebook, you can find me there too:

And finally, I’d love to meet you in person at the Patcham Fairy Tale Fair on 9th March – please don’t be shy about introducing yourself!
