Say a Festive Hello To…Rosehip

Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about how Rosehip began…

Hello! We are two vintage-loving cooks and crafters, Emily Wade and Wendy Bell, and we both live in Lewes. We met through our young children being at the same nursery. One day while chatting in a cafe over tea and chocolate brownies it became clear that we both share a passion for food, flowers and styling. One thing (well, brownie) led to another (brownie) and from there we decided to create a bespoke vintage catering and event styling company together.

What do you enjoy most about Rosehip?

We relish every opportunity to be creative and dynamic. Our different styles of working are complementary and bring further dynamism to an already highly creative process. All of what we do is creative and that is what we love!

Picture 496

What is your most popular cake or yummy treat?
One of our most popular cakes is our 6-layered ombre cake with homemade passion fruit jam and white chocolate ganache frosting and for treats look no further than our melt in the mouth macarons!
Can we find you at any other events over the festive season?

Yes! We will be at the Christmas Vintage Fair at Middle Farm – 23rd & 24th November, and the Artists and Makers fair in Lewes on 30th November, where we will be selling our homemade iced Christmas biscuits, homemade crafts and vintage wares.

Before all that we’ll be running a pop up cafe as part of ‘Carnivale Creative’ at the Lewes Town Hall on Thursday 5th December. Doors open at 5pm, as this is the Lewes’ Late Night shopping evening. Some vintage circus-themed delights we are planning include rainbow confetti cake and candyfloss topped cupcakes, as well as—of course!—moustache cookies on sticks. As well as the cafe there’ll be live music, stalls and various other acts. Another fun date for the diary!

We really look forward to seeing you at the Fairy Tale Fair; come over and try out our Pomegranate jewel cake (gluten free) or a slice of Italian chocolate and nut Christmas cake with whipped cream, or maybe a slice of Lime and pistachio cake (also gluten free). Or if you feel like something savoury, how about our hand-raised turkey, bacon and apricot pie or maybe our pea, tarragon and cream cheese pithivier. There will be plenty more on offer too.

Describe what Christmas is to you in 5 words or less:

Celebrate all that you treasure!

This is your first fairy tale fair, are you looking forward to it?

We are delighted to be part of the Fairy Tale Fair, do pop along and see us. We promise to delight your taste buds and provide you an enchanting festive experience.

“The best bit about Mayflower Events is getting to bake beautiful cakes and share them with people, all served on pretty vintage china that we have been collecting for years. We get to meet lots of lovely people, and be part of some wonderful events – a perfect job!”– Lucy, Mayflower Events
Tell us a bit about Mayflower events and how it started?
Mayflower Events was started by three sisters, Lucy, Robyn and Harriet a few years ago – it combines our mutual love of good homemade food and pretty vintage china. We love baking cakes and other sweet treats and then serving them at tearooms and other events on our beautiful vintage china. We have a great selection of pretty tea pots, cute tea cups & saucers, cake plates sugar bowls and milk jugs that we hire out for events such as weddings, baby showers and christenings.

Our summer fair

Do you have a bestseller?
We sold out of all of our cakes and other treats at the last two fairs so it’s very hard to say what was our absolute bestseller as everything went so quickly! However, our lemon drizzle cake is always very popular – the key to a good lemon drizzle is getting lots of lovely zesty lemon flavour into the cake to balance the sweetness of the sponge and the homemade sausage rolls received really good feedback.

You took part in our previous two fairs, did you enjoy them?
The last two fairs were fabulous fun – so many good quality, talented craft stalls run by some wonderful people. As soon as the doors opened, the fairs were jammed full of visitors having a great time.

What treats can we expect from you in our spring vintage tearoom?

Say Hello To…The Close Shaves

We are super excited to have booked The Close Shaves to come along to our fair. These 3 lovely girls will be singing vintage tunes  throughout the day mainly in our cafe area. It is going to be wonderful to have live singers and make the day even more magical. They will be singing some festive tunes as well! Find out more about them…

“(We enjoy it) When you sing a new arrangement for the first time and hear how it sounds together; nailing a difficult harmony; spending quality time doing something we love with people we love!”– Emily, The Close Shaves

Tell us a bit about The Close Shaves and how you formed….

We are friends who share a love of singing, close harmonies and great tunes from a bygone era. We’ve all been singing and playing in various bands and groups over the years. Eve invited us over to her house to sing through a song her mum had arranged and it blossomed from there!

How long have The Close Shaves been together?

That first get together was in January this year; we’ve been regularly rehearsing since April… so not long at all! We seem to be learning new songs every week and there’s always an arrangement in the pipe line.

What do you enjoy most about being in The Close Shaves?

When you sing a new arrangement for the first time and hear how it sounds together; nailing a difficult harmony; spending quality time doing something we love with people we love! Rehearsing can be hard work but we always end up having a laugh – singing makes you feel so good!

We are looking forward to having you at The Fairy Tale Fair- do you know what type of songs you’ll be singing?

There will be some familiar acapella tunes (with a twist) and some Christmas songs which we’re arranging especially for the fair! You’ll have to come along to the cafe to find out for yourself..!

How can we find out more about you and are you available for bookings?

We are available for weddings, birthday parties (we’re singing at a 90th birthday party in a few weeks!), events etc .. email:; further details, pictures and videos are available on our facebook page

Any other comments you wish to make:
We’re always up for suggestions of new songs and we do bespoke arrangements on request!
