In our Aladdins cave of a studio, surrounded by a myriad of fabrics, tools, nic-nacs and trinkets, we lovingly construct strand upon strand of bunting, the colour and fabric of every single piece carefully considered, every stitch laboured over.

Our vintage ranges are little works of art in their own right, and with materials sourced from all four corners of the globe (well, Sussex anyway!) you can guarantee that every bundle is totally unique.

By incorporating things like a crocheted doily, a gorgeous trim detail, or an area of hand embroidery, every piece has it’s own story, it’s own history, and we hope, a wonderful future!”

Say Hello To…Pomelo Crafts

We first met Pomelo Crafts at our last Fairy Tale Fair, and we are lucky enough to have her and her wonderful, yet useful, creations back again.

“I absolutely love shopping for different fabrics and mixing and matching them together.” – Lynn, Pomelo Crafts

Remind us a bit about you and what you do/ make….
I’m Lynn and I live in Brighton will my husband and 2 little girls. My mum gave me her old sewing machine years ago so I used to dabble every now and again, but I started sewing more often a couple of years ago when I was on maternity leave. I started making things that I needed myself, then started making bits for friends and other people and it just spiraled from there. Now, I make lots of things from the lovely material I find – purses, kindle cases, iPad sleeves, phone cases, dribble bibs, fabric gifts bags. All very useful!

Picture 108

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

It seems to change, but my coin purses are always popular.

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

I absolutely love shopping for different fabrics and mixing and matching them together. I also only sew in my spare time as I have a different day job, so it’s just nice to get a bit creative in the evenings when the kids are in bed.

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

I did several over Christmas last year and hope to do a few more local ones this summer.

What items and Mother’s day/ Easter gifts will you be selling at The Fairy Tale Fair?

I’ve made a few make-up bags recently which would make a great Mother’s Day present. I’ve also got some fabric gift bags which would make a very pretty present filled with something nice – toiletries, cosmetics, chocolates. I’ll be bringing coin purses, iPad sleeves, kindle cases, dribble bibs, pencil case and phone cases too.

Yes, I loved it! There was such a lovely atmosphere and I met some great people. Sparkles Face Painting is always popular with my daughter as well.

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

I keep saying I will set up an Etsy shop which I really hope to do this year. It would also be nice to take part in some more fairs in and around Brighton.

“I love vintage goodies so working in the textile field using vintage materials is like a dream come true for me. Its great being inspired by the fabric itself and knowing you can breath new life into it.”- Sue, Bunting Boutique

Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

I am the maker and designer behind the company Bunting Boutique.
Bunting Boutique can be found down on the sunny south coast, tucked away on a side street a stone’s throw from the beach. In our studio surrounded by an array of fabrics, trinkets and knickknacks we lovingly make every strand of bunting by hand.
The vintage ranges are our signature and are little works of art in their own right as each piece is totally unique. By incorporating things like a crocheted doily, a gorgeous trim detail or an area of hand embroidery, every piece has its own story, its own history and we hope a wonderful future.

How would you describe your style?
Classic with a vintage edge.

How long have you been making your craft items?

Bunting Boutique has been up and running since 2009 but I have been working in the textile field for 12 years

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

I love vintage goodies so working in the textile field using vintage materials is like a dream come true for me. Its great being inspired by the fabric itself and knowing you can breath new life into it.
I also love working on bespoke orders – helping brides to personalise their special day, mums to create bunting to fit in with their child’s bedroom colours or simply working with clients on our personalised lettering service using appliqué or hand embroidery.

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

This year for the first time we have taken part in a few Vintage Wedding Fairs that has been great.
I have always been involved in the open houses and this December the Boutique will be showing at Cross Street Workshop in Hove. We will also be at the Designer and Maker Fair in Lewes Town Hall on 1st December.

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?
I have lots of plans for Bunting Boutique, now that our new website has gone live I hope to have an online shop put on there soon. Plans to expand our wedding ranges will take place in the spring of next year, to offer brides more inspirational ideas for their big day.

I am always expanding our existing ranges, brand new this autumn is our Christmas Advent Bunting and we have just developed a paper range using vintage children’s books. Long term I would like to continue using vintage materials and develop a home ware range.

Any other comments you wish to make:
This Christmas the Boutique is offering lots of festive treats. We have bunting and stockings made from some lovely Scandinavian style printed fabric. Lots of new Vintage doily pieces for those of you who are planning a vintage style Christmas. Brand new Advent bunting which is a great handmade ornament that can be looked forward to being pulled out every year and filled with your own choice of treats. Please check out my Etsy store to see all the new Christmas ranges.

Say Hello To…Amie Boswell

Say Hello to Amie Boswell, who creates wonderful t-shirts, purses and more from the most beautiful fabrics! You may of seen Amie’s items for sale in The Cake House Artists Open House in Brighton, and we are happy to have her at The Fairy Tale Fair- perfect gifts for children!

“I find it truly relaxing and am not happier than when i’m creating. The sourcing and combining of materials is definitely my favourite part…”- Amie

Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

I am a very small company run from home sewing and creating fun and functional goodies for children with a few bits thrown in for the grownups. Amie Boswell products cover a huge range of items form quirky embellished tie T’s to leather purses……

How would you describe your style?

My style is a mix of lots of colour, pattern and texture. I take inspiration form lovely fabrics and vintage bits that I source. The fun bit is putting everything together and finding the best combinations to create a striking and individual look.

How long have you been making your craft items?

I have been working on my products for about 10 years on and off but have had two little ones in that period too so off more than on recently…. Having children hasn’t stopped my flow of ides though, in fact quite the opposite. You can get away with much bolder designs for the kids and they always look so cute!

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

My best seller over the last couple of years is no doubt my tie T- shirt. Nearly every one is different and they are so easy to wear plus they look adorable.

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

Having a bit of time to myself. I find it truly relaxing and am not happier than when i’m creating. The sourcing and combining of materials is definitely my favourite part.

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

For the last few years I have been lucky enough to take part in ‘The Cake House’ open house in Brighton, run by Clair Letton. Now that I have a little more time to myself I will be looking for future stalls and markets though. Can’t wait….

What items and festive gifts will you be selling at The Fairy Tale Fair?

I will have; tie T’s, Festive p.j’s, leather purses, canvas drawstring bags, baby bibs, bunting and a few other little accessories and gifts.

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

At the moment I am working on relaunching my website , Amieboswell.com, which should be ready for November. In the new year I will be looking for outlets and future events to take part in so if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Any other comments you wish to make:

When you buy an Amie Boswell product you can be safely assured that you have a unique item. As every individual item is made by myself in small quantities it is very unlikely that you will ever see anything exactly the same anywhere else…….

“I loved the last fair! Such a lovely atmosphere and lots of talented people…”- Lynn, Pomelo Crafts

Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

Well, I live in Brighton with my husband and 2 little girls. I do have a day job, but I love to sew on the side. I started sewing a lot more when I was on maternity leave with my 2nd daughter, as I wanted to make things I needed but couldn’t find in the shops. I then started making these as presents for my friends and Pomelo Crafts was born. I now make lots of other things….coin purses, Kindle cases, tote bags, phone sleeves, iPad cases…

What festive gifts and creations will you be selling at The Fairy Tale Fair?

I will be bringing lots of lovely coin purses, kindle cases, ipad cases, phone sleeves, funky bibs for babies, make-up bags. I’ve also just made some lovely fabric gift bags in various sizes which are great for adding that something extra to a gift you’re giving. The small ones are just the right size to put some chocolates in and hang on your Christmas tree.

You took part in our last Fairy Tale Fair, did you enjoy it and did you find your creations were popular with visitors?

I loved the last fair! Such a lovely atmosphere and lots of talented people. I think my coin purses and bibs were probably most popular.

Will you be taking part in other events over the festive period (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

Not sure yet. There’s a couple I still might do.

We are looking forward to having Pomelo Crafts at the fair again! You can find out more on their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/pomelocrafts
