Here are a few words from Sue, owner of Bunting Boutique:

“Down on the Sunny South Coast, tucked away on a side street a mere stones-throw from the beach resides Bunting Boutique, makers of the most exquisite handmade one-off pieces of bunting.

Picture 193

In our Aladdins cave of a studio, surrounded by a myriad of fabrics, tools, nic-nacs and trinkets, we lovingly construct strand upon strand of bunting, the colour and fabric of every single piece carefully considered, every stitch laboured over.

Picture 192

Our vintage ranges are little works of art in their own right, and with materials sourced from all four corners of the globe (well, Sussex anyway!) you can guarantee that every bundle is totally unique.

Picture 195

By incorporating things like a crocheted doily, a gorgeous trim detail, or an area of hand embroidery, every piece has it’s own story, it’s own history, and we hope, a wonderful future!

If you’re looking for something specific, something more personal perhaps, then please click here to read more about the many bespoke services we can provide.

We can hand embroider letters onto linen to create words or phrases of your choice, or we can design and make Bunting to your specification.

Picture 196

You can choose the patterns, fabric and colour scheme of your choice to guarantee it fits perfectly wherever it ends up hanging.

If you have a special piece of vintage linen which is sentimental to you and would like to see it transformed into a lovely garland, we will gladly help you to realise this. So head over to our Bespoke page for more details.

Say Hello To…Me and Mrs Jones

Today we meet another Fairy Tale Fair newbie Mary and Kassi- otherwise known as Me and Mrs Jones. They make some super cute crafty creations, so read on to find out more…

“You can take craft ANYWHERE! Mary won’t leave house without her crocheting. She often gets the bus and will get funny looks from people as she sits there. You can sit and sew whilst watching the TV- or dedicate a whole day to making a mess and not caring!”– Kassi

Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

Me and Mrs Jones are mother and daughter who have been crafting for a very long time. Mary (Mrs Jones) taught Me (Kassi) all she knows, and together they make a variety of crafts from greetings cards, hair clips, bunting, sewed decorations/badges, crocheting and Kassi’s special scrabble pictures.

Picture 52

How would you describe your style?

Our styles are quite different. Whereas Mary is very traditional, with her crochet baby shawls for instance, and her gorgeous afghan blankets; Kassi seems to have a bit more of a modern twist to her crafts, as you will see from her scrabble pictures and bunting.

Picture 69

How long have you been making your craft items?

We have been making them forever! My fondest memories are my mum teaching how to do quilling, how to make patchwork cushions and how to make chocolate truffles. I really did grow up surrounded by crafts.

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

I think the best seller has to be the baby blankets. They are the perfect gift for a new born, and they can be kept as the child’s “blankie” forever. Kassi still has hers! 😉

Picture 71

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

You can take craft ANYWHERE! Mary won’t leave house without her crocheting. She often gets the bus and will get funny looks from people as she sits there. You can sit and sew whilst watching the TV- or dedicate a whole day to making a mess and not caring!

Picture 66
Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

We have been to school fairs, and our local Christmas Market, but we have both been a bit bust lately- so are just getting back into the flor

Picture 70

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

The ideal dream would be to have our own little shop. A craft shop come tea room.
But for now, we are happy knowing people enjoy our hardwork.

Now… we just need to win the lottery.

Picture 50

We Love Bunting!

Oh yes we do! Especially that of Bunting Boutique! Bunting Boutique are a small company based in Brighton and will be supplying wonderful bunting to decorate our fair with. We used their bunting for our Christmas fair too and got such nice comments on how nice the venue looked!

I have loved knitting and making since I was a child.
I especially like knitting colourful dolls and baby shoes.
I find lots of nice patterns on the Internet, and buying wool is an obsession.

Picture 102
My sister Sally and I have ‘making’ days (tea, cakes and a chat!!), and share lots of ideas….
I also sew, and make small gifts, adults and children’s aprons etc…. But knitting is my first love.

I have been making crafts on and off since my children were small – now, for the grandchildren.
I knit dolls as presents and some made to order for friends, who inspired me to try and sell some of my collection.

Picture 100

What are your best sellers?

My best sellers are the dolls and the baby shoes

I find knitting and sewing very relaxing – and it beats housework 🙂

Picture 101

Are you taking part in any other fairs?

This will be my third craft fair, and I already have another booked before Easter.
Sally and I do the fairs together, as we both enjoy meeting nice people and seeing all the unusual craft stalls. A great way to spend an afternoon

Picture 99

What Easter & Mother’s Day creations can we expect from you?

I hope the Easter bunnies and bags complete with chocolate eggs, prove to be popular.
I have some small gifts, which may be nice as extras for Mother’s Day – or any day!

Picture 98

I hope to do more fairs, and am constantly looking for new things to make.

We look forward to welcoming Irene to The Fairy Tale Fair on Saturday the 9th March!

Say Hello To…Handmade & Vintage

Say Hello to the wonderful Handmade & Vintage who take old vintage items and makes them into something beautiful and useful! We are excited to see Trudi at the fair, find out more about her below…

“I love collages, fifties colours, natural textures but mostly I’m obsessive about finding a new use for old things…”- Trudi, Handmade & Vintage

Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

Handmade & Vintage takes old things and reworks them into something new and useful. Old postcards become lavender sachets, vintage textiles are made into hat-stands, tapestries become seats, old china turns into hair clips … you get the idea! I’m pretty certain that reusing and recycling handmade goods will make a home a happier place!

How would you describe your style?

I love collages, fifties colours, natural textures but mostly I’m obsessive about finding a new use for old things…

How long have you been making your craft items?

Making things to sell for about 2 years, making or transforming things in the house… years!

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

It depends on the time of year but just now the Christmas printed bunting is pretty busy as are the vintage china bits and bobs.

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

Rescuing things from drawers, giving them a new use and getting people to love them again.

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

Yes, mostly around Brighton and Sussex. I missed the last Fairytale Fair because I was on holiday so I’m really looking forward to being a part of this one. Apart from that, this December I’m part of the fab Open House at 4 Park View Terrace (Stanford Road) Brighton, BN1 5PW and I’ll be back at the Makers Boutique on December 1st. I’m also at Pop Up Vintage in Hassocks on the 17th November. There’s a whole list of fairs here. Mostly I sell on the Handmade & Vintage website.

What items and festive gifts will you be selling at The Fairy Tale Fair?

Christmas decorations and small, made from vintage gifts

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

I’m keen to come up with a new use for a mountain of sixties plastic toys!

A Guest Post From…Bunting Boutique

Today we have a special post from Bunting Boutique, who will kindly be supplying some of their beautiful bunting for the fair. Bunting Boutique is Brighton based and uses vintage fabrics to hand make lovely and unique bunting. Find out more…

“I love vintage goodies so working in the textile field using vintage materials is like a dream come true for me. Its great being inspired by the fabric itself and knowing you can breath new life into it.”- Sue, Bunting Boutique

Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

I am the maker and designer behind the company Bunting Boutique.
Bunting Boutique can be found down on the sunny south coast, tucked away on a side street a stone’s throw from the beach. In our studio surrounded by an array of fabrics, trinkets and knickknacks we lovingly make every strand of bunting by hand.
The vintage ranges are our signature and are little works of art in their own right as each piece is totally unique. By incorporating things like a crocheted doily, a gorgeous trim detail or an area of hand embroidery, every piece has its own story, its own history and we hope a wonderful future.

How would you describe your style?
Classic with a vintage edge.

How long have you been making your craft items?

Bunting Boutique has been up and running since 2009 but I have been working in the textile field for 12 years

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

I love vintage goodies so working in the textile field using vintage materials is like a dream come true for me. Its great being inspired by the fabric itself and knowing you can breath new life into it.
I also love working on bespoke orders – helping brides to personalise their special day, mums to create bunting to fit in with their child’s bedroom colours or simply working with clients on our personalised lettering service using appliqué or hand embroidery.

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

This year for the first time we have taken part in a few Vintage Wedding Fairs that has been great.
I have always been involved in the open houses and this December the Boutique will be showing at Cross Street Workshop in Hove. We will also be at the Designer and Maker Fair in Lewes Town Hall on 1st December.

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?
I have lots of plans for Bunting Boutique, now that our new website has gone live I hope to have an online shop put on there soon. Plans to expand our wedding ranges will take place in the spring of next year, to offer brides more inspirational ideas for their big day.

I am always expanding our existing ranges, brand new this autumn is our Christmas Advent Bunting and we have just developed a paper range using vintage children’s books. Long term I would like to continue using vintage materials and develop a home ware range.

Any other comments you wish to make:
This Christmas the Boutique is offering lots of festive treats. We have bunting and stockings made from some lovely Scandinavian style printed fabric. Lots of new Vintage doily pieces for those of you who are planning a vintage style Christmas. Brand new Advent bunting which is a great handmade ornament that can be looked forward to being pulled out every year and filled with your own choice of treats. Please check out my Etsy store to see all the new Christmas ranges.
