Say Hello To Mooshpie…

Today we welcome back Fairy Tale Fair regular Mooshpie. We love her enchanted illustrations…

“I have done The Fairy Tale Fair twice and both times have loved it. It’s a great atmosphere with shoppers staying all day and enjoying the craft workshops and eating some of the best cake i’ve ever eaten at a craft fair.” – Mooshpie.

Tell us a bit about you and what you do/ make….

Hello I’m mooshpie an illustrating, screen printing, bookbinding, cake baking whirlwind.

I make lots of lovely treats for you and for your home. Illustrated hand printed wall hangings, totes, tea towels, prints, cards and hand bound books straight from my shed in Brighton!

How would you describe your style?

There’s a lot of comic darkness from studying folklore, fairy tales and children’s stories in the illustrations for my prints and hand-tooling for my journals. Taking inspiration from woodland animals – in knitware, japanese shrines, 19th century fairytale prints and books, quintessential British home decor- think doilies and net curtains, small wooden buildings and of course my shed.

How long have you been making your craft items?

mooshpie started many mooshes ago… i’ve been making things for friends and family for a long long time. Mooshpie kind of grew from that starting off as a place to showcase my lastest doings to being my job. I studied Fine Art Printmaking and moved to Brighton to do my Masters. Since then, I’ve experimented with animation, spending a month in Vancouver learning and training with the best 2D animators in the industry. I’ve made mini comics for sale in local shops and conventions. I’ve learned the art of traditional book binding over six years and created lots of lovely handbound journals.

Do you have a best seller? If so what is it?

My Iari fox print is my best selling image and is available on screen printed totes, tea towels and wall hangings.

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

I love processes that take patience and a long time to create, screenprinting and bookbinding in my studio shed at the bottom of the garden. It’s a tad hot in there at the moment (37 degrees) so lots of icecream and iced tea is needed 🙂

Do you take part in other craft events (fairs, open houses, markets etc…)?

I have done Craftaganza twice this year and also for Christmas 2012. I hope to take part in it again this year. I’m also planning getting into the Open houses for Christmas this year too.

What are your plans/ ambitions for the future? Or have you already achieved them?

I’ve recently set up my Etsy shop  which has been great fun and a lot of hard work. I have still got lots more products to put on there. But by the end of the year it’s going to be full of super cute things for you to buy. I’m also working on new designs for new super lovely new things to sell coming soon….!

You have previously taken part in The Fairy Tale Fair. Did you enjoy the day?

I have done The Fairy Tale Fair twice and both times have loved it. It’s a great atmosphere with shoppers staying all day and enjoying the craft workshops and eating some of the best cake i’ve ever eaten at a craft fair. I’m really looking forward to selling at the Summer fair and to see what other talented makers will be there too!
